Mobis India Foundation Transforms Mobility into Opportunity for 14Wheelchair Users in Chennai, Reaching 120 Beneficiaries AcrossTamil Nadu

Chennai, Tamil Nadu | November 2nd, 2026: For persons with disabilities,
independent mobility is more than the ability to travel from one place to another – it is
the freedom to pursue education, access employment, participate in society, and
make independent life choices. Recognizing the transformative role of mobility in
building an inclusive society, Mobis India Foundation, the Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) arm of Hyundai Mobis in India, extended personalized mobility
support to 14 wheelchair users in Chennai, taking its overall outreach to 120
beneficiaries across Tamil Nadu under its flagship initiative, “Accessibility &
Freedom – Empowering Wheelchair Users with Mobility Assistive Devices.”
The distribution programme was held at the District Collectorate, Chennai, in the
presence of Ms. Malathi Helen, District Collector, Chennai, who graced the
occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed personalized mobility solutions to the
beneficiaries. The programme brought together government leadership, corporate
social responsibility, and assistive technology to address one of the fundamental
barriers faced by persons with disabilities – access to independent mobility.
The 14 beneficiaries supported during this programme include individuals with spinal
cord injuries and polio-related disabilities affecting both lower limbs. For many,
limited mobility can create challenges in accessing workplaces, educational
institutions, healthcare facilities, public spaces, and community activities. Through
this initiative, Mobis India Foundation seeks to address these barriers by providing
personalized mobility solutions that enable individuals to navigate their surroundings
with greater independence, confidence, and dignity.
The Chennai programme marks the third phase of Mobis India Foundation’s
accessibility initiative in Tamil Nadu, following distribution programmes conducted in
May and September 2026. Together, these three phases have extended
personalized mobility support to 120 wheelchair users across the state. This
milestone reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to advancing accessibility
through sustained interventions that address the diverse mobility requirements of
persons with disabilities.
The Tamil Nadu programme forms part of Mobis India Foundation’s ₹6.3 crore
national accessibility initiative, which aims to support 600 wheelchair users
across eight states and union territories with personalized NeoFly wheelchairs
and NeoBolt motor-powered attachments. Beyond the provision of assistive
devices, the initiative seeks to create pathways for persons with disabilities to
participate more actively in education, employment, entrepreneurship, healthcare,
sports, and community life.

The programme is being implemented in partnership with NeoMotion, an Indian
Institute of Technology Madras-incubated assistive technology company dedicated to
developing innovative and personalized mobility solutions. Every beneficiary
undergoes comprehensive clinical assessments and detailed body measurements
before receiving a mobility device. This ensures that each wheelchair is customized
to the individual’s physical, clinical, and functional requirements.
Each beneficiary receives a customized NeoFly wheelchair, designed with multiple
personalization options to suit individual mobility needs. When paired with NeoBolt,
a patented motor-powered attachment developed at the Indian Institute of
Technology Madras, the wheelchair transforms into a roadworthy personal mobility
vehicle within seconds. This enables users to travel longer distances with greater
independence, convenience, and reduced physical effort.
Unlike conventional wheelchair distribution programmes that follow a one-size-fits-all
approach, this initiative places individual requirements at the centre of mobility
support. By combining clinical assessments, personalized wheelchair configurations,
and assistive technology, the programme promotes improved seating comfort,
posture, safety, and long-term usability. The approach recognizes that meaningful
accessibility goes beyond providing a mobility device – it is about enabling individuals
to participate in everyday life with greater freedom and self-reliance.
Commenting on the initiative, Narasimhan G., Head – Corporate Social
Responsibility, Mobis India Foundation, said:
“Accessibility is one of the strongest drivers of inclusion because it creates
opportunities where barriers once existed. Independent mobility is often the first step
towards education, employment, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and active
participation in society. At Mobis India Foundation, we believe that meaningful social
impact begins when innovation is designed around people. Through this initiative, we
are enabling aspirations, strengthening confidence, and creating pathways for
persons with disabilities to lead independent and self-determined lives.”
Ms. Malathi Helen, District Collector, Chennai, said:
“Accessible mobility is not just about enabling movement; it is about empowering
persons with disabilities to live independently, access opportunities, and participate
in society with dignity and confidence”
The milestone of supporting 120 wheelchair users across Tamil Nadu demonstrates
the importance of collaboration between corporate foundations, government
institutions, and assistive technology innovators in creating a more accessible
society. With each beneficiary receiving a mobility solution tailored to their individual
requirements, the initiative reinforces the belief that accessibility should not be
limited to physical

movement but should translate into greater opportunities, participation, and
independence.
As Mobis India Foundation continues its national accessibility initiative across
multiple states and union territories, its commitment remains focused on enabling
persons with disabilities to move beyond mobility barriers and pursue their
aspirations in education, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, sports, and community
participation. Through sustained partnerships and personalized assistive technology,
the Foundation aims to contribute towards a society where every individual has the
freedom and opportunity to lead an active, independent, and dignified life.
