Dalmia Bharat Foundation Inaugurates its 24th DIKSHa Centre in Chennai in partnership with Athulya Senior Care

Chennai, July 25, 2025: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of leading cement company, Dalmia Bharat Ltd, inaugurated a new Skill Development Centre – DIKSHa (Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing)inChennai in partnership with Athulya Assisted Living Private Limited, a leader in senior care services.

As part of the inauguration, a virtual signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was held between Mr. Ashok Kumar Gupta, CEO, DBF and Mr. Srinivasan G, Founder & CEO Athulya Senior Care to formalize the partnership and its shared goal of creating career-ready healthcare professionals.  

The centre will begin with training 150 youth annually in the General Duty Assistant (GDA) role through a blend of 30 days of classroom instruction and 60 days of on-the-job training at Athulya’s assisted living facilities. The program is aligned with NSDC standards and includes accommodation, meals, uniforms, and stipends during the internship. Upon successful completion, trainees will receive NSDC certification and formal job offers with starting salaries between ₹12,000 and ₹18,000 per month. The inauguration program was attended by the management of Athulya Assisted Living Private Limited, Dr. Venkatesan, Principal, Dr. Kiran Kumar, Programme Director and Mr. Paneer Chelvam, VP, HR and officials of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited.

Reinforcing its commitment to skill-based education and sustainable livelihoods, Mr. Ashok Gupta, CEO Dalmia Bharat Foundation said “This initiative is a testament to our belief that meaningful partnerships can drive long-term social change. With Chennai’s healthcare sector on a steady growth trajectory, this DIKSHa centre will be a step towards bridging the skill gap while creating dignified employment opportunities for the youth”

Currently, 23 DIKSHa centres operate across India, offering training in sectors such as healthcare, beauty therapy, electrical work, data entry, and solar installation. To date, over 25,000 youth have been trained under the program, with approximately 75% securing employment or becoming self-employed. Notably, over half the trainees are women, reflecting DIKSHa’s emphasis on inclusive development. The DIKSHa centre in Chennai marks not just the expansion of DBF’s skilling footprint, but a shared commitment to building a resilient, job-ready healthcare workforce rooted in community and care.

The new launch of Synergo Multi Sports Arena – Chennai’s one of the future Olympics Games Pickleball courts

Chennai, 27 July 2025: Synergo Multi Sports Arena was launched in a grand manner at Nanganallur, in Chennai on Sunday. The arena comprises Four USA standard pickleball courts with a skating rink and Two Badminton courts of Badminton World Federation (BWF) standard.

Pickleball’s popularity in India has been on the rise recently, with the trend being no different in Chennai. A combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis, pickleball is popular among people from different age categories.

India and CSk cricketer Vijay Shankar, who was the chief guest for the launch, said: “Synergo Multi Sports Arena is coming up with four USA-standard pickleball courts and international-standard badminton courts. It is a great platform for everyone to have some fun with your friends, and up your skill in pickleball and badminton.”

Chennai Pickleball Association secretary Manendra said: “Initiatives like this are taken to ensure pickleball is played at the Olympic Games in the future and our players get to that level. For training players, we have coaches for all three levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.”

Vizhinjam Port – India’s Gateway to Maritime Supremacy

In May 2025, India marked a monumental chapter in its maritime journey with the dedication of the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala to the Nation. Designed to transform India’s position in global trade, the port has already started rewriting the narrative of South Asia’s shipping economy. Since the commencement of trial operations in July 2024, Vizhinjam has welcomed more than 380 vessels, including Container Mother Ships of global scale. The Port has handled over 8 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), setting a powerful precedent before its formal dedication of the Port to the Nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi. Notably, the World’s largest Container Vessel, MSC Irina, with a capacity of 24,346 TEUs, recently docked here symbolizing the port’s readiness for ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs).

Strategic Strengths

The significance of Vizhinjam lies in its geographic and natural advantages. Located just 10 nautical miles from the East-West and Far East – Middle East Asia International Shipping Routes, the port enjoys a natural depth of up to 20 meters making it the deepest Port in India. This allows it to handle ULCVs without continual dredging, ensuring lower maintenance costs and minimal environmental disruption. Vizhinjam is also the first automated port in India, equipped with state-of-the-art automated ship-to-shore cranes, automated yard cranes, and an AI-powered Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) indigenously developed in collaboration with IIT Madras.

India’s Maritime Future

India currently transships about 5 – 6 million TEUs in an year, of which about 75% are transshipped through the foreign ports like Colombo, Dubai, and Singapore. Vizhinjam is the solution for the Country’s need for a domestic alternative for transshipment. Its first phase is expected to handle up to 1.5 million TEUs annually, with capacity projected to rise to 4.5 million TEUs after subsequent expansions. This reduces dependency on foreign ports, boosts revenue retention, and secures strategic autonomy.

Moreover, the port is a critical component of the PM Gati Shakti initiative and the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC), aimed at enhancing logistics and global trade connectivity. Vizhinjam’s development supports thousands of direct and indirect jobs and fosters local industries, tourism, and services in Kerala.

Challenging Global Titans

Vizhinjam is India’s answer to regional transshipment hubs like Colombo, Singapore, Dubai etc. With a comparable draft and automation infrastructure, it can rival these ports in efficiency and ship-handling capability. The proximity to major sea routes reduces sailing time, and handling charges are significantly lower-saving an estimated $200–300 per container.

Already, major global liners like MSC have integrated Vizhinjam into their Jade and Dragon service routes, traditionally dominated by foreign ports. This underscores its growing appeal in international shipping circles.

An 800 – meter long Container Berth supports simultaneous berthing of mega-vessels. Future expansion includes the extension of the container berth by 1,200 m, extension of Breakwater by 920 m, 1220 m multipurpose Berth, bunkering facilities, enhanced warehousing, and inland connectivity upgrades.

Chennai, July 8, 2025: The Tata Motors Group global wholesales in Q1 FY26, including Jaguar Land Rover** were at 2,99,664 nos., lower by 9%, as compared to Q1 FY25.

Global wholesales of all Tata Motors’ commercial vehicles and Tata Daewoo range in Q1 FY26 were at 87,569 nos., lower by 6%, over Q1 FY25.

Global wholesales of Tata Motors passenger vehicles* in Q1 FY26 were at 1,24,809 nos., lower by 10% as compared to Q1 FY25.

Global wholesales for Jaguar Land Rover** were 87,286 vehicles, lower by 11% as compared to Q1 FY25. Jaguar wholesales for the quarter were 2,339 vehicles, while Land Rover wholesales for the quarter were 84,947 vehicles.
