6500 Government Tribal Residential School students to experience ‘Joyful English’ classes

. Teacher development also the focus of this project which uses mime, movement,
music and storytelling to drive home the concepts.


Chennai, October 16, 2023: The Tribal Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu, in partnership with
Karadi Path Education Company launched the ‘Joyful English’ project across 131 Government Tribal
Residential (GTR) schools in the state.
Ms. G Laxmi Priya, IAS, Secretary of the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, unveiled the
project at GTR Higher Secondary School, Pattaraikadu, Thirvannamalai in the presence of Mr. S.
Annadurai CLS, Director of Tribal Welfare.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ms. G Laxmi Priya IAS said, “ I hope the paths of action, music, reading
and storytelling provide direction to teachers to help develop functional English among students
studying in Tribal schools. I congratulate Karadi Path for developing an innovative teacher training
app.”
Mr. S. Annadurai CLS, Director of Tribal Welfare asked teachers to make the most of this wonderful
learning opportunity. “Tribal schools across Tamil Nadu have got a unique opportunity to develop
the English skills of their students, with the Tiruvanamalai schools receiving an almost entire
coverage” he said.
The teaching approach through the ‘Joyful English’ project is through mime, movement, music,
storytelling and more, thus making the learning process enjoyable and memorable.
Mr. CP Viswanath, CEO of Karadi Path, remarked, “We understand the unique challenges faced by
the students in the remote tribal schools and our methodology will make their learning process
easier and stress-free. Teacher development through teachers as co-learners is a critical area that

The Joyful English project focusses on strengthening educational institutions and also aims to make a
difference in the lives of 6500 students and 250 teachers across the backward blocks of Erode,
Namakkal, Salem, Trichy, Perambalur, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakuruchi, Tirupatthur and Dharmapuri
districts. To strengthen the project, Joyful English app is also being created exclusively for the
teachers to learn and teach the students through mime, music and storytelling. Karadi Path’s
